Tomografía Multislice
en el estudio de
tumores GIST

Los tumores del estroma gastrointestinal (GIST) constituyen la neoplasia mesenquimal más común que
surge del tracto gastrointestinal. Tienen capacidad de
diferenciación miogénica o neurogénica y se caracterizan por la expresión de proteína KIT (factor de crecimiento de la tirosincinasa). Para el manejo óptimo de
los pacientes con GIST, la TC es la prueba de imagen
de elección para la detección inicial, seguimiento de
los pacientes y valoración de respuesta al tratamiento.
Permite realizar el estadiaje y planificar la cirugía.

Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) are the most
common mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. They have myogenic or neurogenic differentiation and the mutation of the KIT protein drives their
behavior (growth factor of the tyrosine kinase). For
the optimal management of patients with GIST, CT is
the imaging test of choice to detect the tumor, monitor
patients and assess the response to treatment. CT helps
recognize cancer staging and plan the surgery.
